“Faber noted that Logitech was not “necessarily super far away” from making the forever mouse a reality, but added that the high price for its extreme durability may require the company to add a subscription model to help make it profitable.”
If you ask my opinion? In my 40 years working in the computer industry, I’ve never seen a “forever device” hold up to its name. Not even close. And socially, people like to swap things out. Not just swap, but flip as well. Faber references a Rolex at one point. Sorry! Don’t need mouse capable of functioning up to 10 bar of atmospheric pressure!
Call me simple, I guess. I don’t like taking one of the most basic PC devices in existence and turning it something unnecessarily complicated. And I most definitely don’t “love the idea” of taking what is usually considered the least expensive computer peripheral and turning it into of of the most expensive.
If I’m being completely honest, I gave up on Logitech mice a while ago due to their poor-quality microswitches. So hey, Logitech, if you are listening, instead of grandiose ideation maybe go back to basic quality control?
