You Spent Thousands on a Website. Now Watch It Get Hacked

by Shane Coursen with assistance from Gemni

Most web designers are too busy talking about “user experience” and “brand identity” to tell you the truth: they’ve just built a target on your back.

They hand over a shiny, new website, collect their check, and then disappear. But as a cybersecurity engineer, I see what happens next. The moment that site goes live, it’s a beacon for every bored script-kiddie and serious cybercriminal out there. They’re probing it, looking for the tiny, neglected vulnerabilities that your “designer” didn’t even know existed.

They get in.

They find a backdoor left open by an outdated plugin. They exploit a weak password. They deface your homepage with graffiti, steal your customer data, or turn your business’s biggest asset into a malware-spreading zombie. All because you were sold a pretty picture, not a fortress.

I’m Not Your Only Option

If I’m being completely honest, even my own website — the one you’re reading this on — isn’t immune. While I’ve implemented advanced security measures and fortifications, the reality is that I don’t control the server it sits on. It’s not my hardware, it’s not my network, and the single weakest point in any system is the human who controls it. That means your website — my website — is a risk. The only difference is that my site is a problem I’m prepared to fix. You are not prepared*.

Most “web maintenance” plans are a joke. They’re just glorified babysitting services that upload a new blog post once a month and pretend everything’s fine.

I don’t do that.

I am a web designer who builds beautiful, functional sites. More importantly, I am a cybersecurity engineer who understands exactly where your site is most vulnerable. I know what they’re looking for because I’ve spent years defending against it.

When you hire me for maintenance, you aren’t just paying for updates. You’re buying a shield. You’re paying for the paranoia of someone who knows what lurks in the shadows of the internet.

So, go ahead. Hire one of the others if you want. See what happens. When your site gets compromised and you’re in a panic, you know who to call.

Or, you can just hire me now and avoid the inevitable.

The choice is yours. And trust me, there’s only one right answer.

*Disclaimer: The line “You are not prepared” is a loving homage to Illidan Stormrage, the famous character from World of Warcraft. Unlike his character, however, my warnings are not fueled by personal anguish, only a professional awareness of your impending doom. Just kidding. Mostly.
